Website Timing Details

The important thing to remember when thinking of a web development or web design project is that development and design are two different things.

Design is graphically and creatively involved and requires a different skillset.

Development is the art of programming the website, and is actually split into a front-end and back-end portion with their own languages to know. For instance, on the back-end you may need to use Python, Ruby, or Java, while on the front-end it’s more HTML, CSS, and JavaScript which you my be more familiar with.

1. How Long Does It Take To Build A Website Yourself In A Drag-N-Drop Builder?

DIY Builder | 2-3 Pages | 10-25 Hours

Drag-N-Drop Builders or DIY website builders are, for instance, Wix, SquareSpace, etc.

Your timeline will truly depend on how much time you spend on it yourself. For the most part, if you have decent computer skills, you should be able to put together a DIY website of 2-3 pages within 10-25 hours.

But, you’ll be handling everything yourself, including your hosting, domain, SEO, content, design, and troubleshooting. You can hire Wix or SquareSpace experts to help you finish, but then you’ll be spending more money, which is not the reason you tried a DIY builder in the first place.

2. How Long Does It Take To Build A WordPress Site With A Purchased Theme?

Theme-Based WordPress Website | 20-50 Hours

So you’ve chosen a WordPress website, and you’re going to purchase a pre-designed and pre-developed theme from WordPress or Theme Forest, etc. Then you’ll have a website design firm take it from there, hopefully one which knows search engine optimization and digital marketing as well.

Your timeline will truly depend on how close your chosen theme is to your end design. If you need additional design tweaks, specific images, forms, or other changes or content, it’s going to extend the timeline with your chosen design/development firm. For the most part, a purchased theme website should be able to be built within 20-50 hours. This timeline also depends on the number of pages you need.

  • stock images and photography if needed
  • search engine optimized content
  • any specific functionality needed like ecommerce, online job applications, forms, blogs, and more
  • setup for Google Analytics, Google Search Console, and other software applications you need

Your timeline will truly depend your specific custom website needs, the size of the website, and your communicativeness. For the most part, a custom WordPress or Trustdyx website should be able to be built within 40-100 hours.
