What Is “Email Marketing”
Email marketing is a cost-efficient way to complement your other marketing efforts, like content marketing or social media marketing.
Email marketing provides a phenomenal opportunity to reach prospects and existing clients in a manner that is both carefully targeted and well-organized. Using email as a marketing tool can target the very individuals that present the best opportunity for a return on your investment.
Email marketing is one of the best ways to further customer loyalty and improve your brand reputation. Loyal customers are more inclined to advocate for your brand and bring in new business.
We work with your existing MailChimp or other email marketing provider account and analyze it as part of a larger digital marketing approach.

MailChimp is a service a few of our clients have chosen to use, and it works very well. The drag-and-drop editing style is something we love. While the animation and friendly chimpanzee are cute, this email marketing service gets the job done.
There is a free version, and costs aren’t too prohibitive at lower levels of subscribers.
Constant Contact is an email service many are familiar with. One of the earliest and biggest names in email marketing services, Constant Contact still offers a full suite of features.
Constant Contact has been acquired by an investment group as of 2021, so watch out for changes to their pricing tiers and services moving forward.
Mad Mimi is a stylish email marketing service. According to its website, the service was originally created by a small business to handle their own emails and expanded from there. Mad Mimi was acquired by GoDaddy in 2014, and continues to get great reviews for customer service. If you’re already using GoDaddy for your website hosting, Mad Mimi might be a natural move.
There is a small free version, and monthly pricing available after that.
Email Marketing Strategies
Remember, in email marketing it’s all about quality over quantity. A highly-engaged, small group of subscribers is infinitely more effective for your marketing efforts than a thousands-strong list of people who never look at your creative marketing emails.
Drip campaigns consist of a set of email messages that is sent to sales leads at a calculated time to help encourage their movement through the sales cycle. They are most effective when the content contains information that is relevant, is sent in specific intervals, and relates to actions taken on your website.
Drip campaigns are a great way to free up resources in sales and marketing and provide the right amount of attention to your prospects.
Email newsletters are a great way to keep your prospects and clients engaged with your company or product. Newsletters are typically a standard email sent to a list of your subscribers, clients, and prospects.
The important elements needed for a successful newsletter campaign is to include information that is valuable to the reader. A newsletter should be more than just “the news”, but also include content that provides useful information that the reader can use. These might be tips and tricks, events you or others are hosting, or valuable downloads you offer.
The email newsletter helps build relationships with your clients and prospects and create trust in your brand.
Email surveys are a great marketing tool. They can provide you with valuable information, but also solidify your brand in the minds of your contacts. Email surveys are great because they are relatively inexpensive compared to mail and phone surveys.
Also, studies show that people are more likely to provide more honest answers with an email survey as opposed to other survey methods.
Email Marketing FAQ
Should I buy an email list for email marketing?
There are two ways to get an email list: buy it, or build it yourself. In reality, buying an email list is as good as buying nothing at all. If you’re planning to use a reputable email marketing service – i.e. MailChimp, Constant Contact, etc. – they will not allow you to use a purchased list.
Also, your email deliverability and IP reputation can be seriously harmed. Purchased email lists tend to have a lot of blocked email addresses which bounce instead of delivering. If you email to a bunch of bouncing email addresses, the IP address of that target email may begin to identify you as a spammer. Once you’ve been identified as a spammer, it can take months or years to build up your company’s reputation again.
How do I get subscribers to my email marketing list?
Do this by offering webinars, ebooks, templates and other content behind a ‘gate’, where if they want the content they need to offer you their name, email address and possibly some other identifying information. If you’re a software company, you might build an online tool people can use, but request their information before their first use.
Also, be sure to include a “Forward To A Friend” link at the bottom of all of your marketing emails, as people who already subscribe may be your best way of getting new subscribers.
Why do I need to have an unsubscribe link on my marketing emails?
This might seem counterintuitive, but it’s important to make it easy to unsubscribe from your emails. If you don’t provide an unsubscribe link somewhere easy to get to on your marketing emails, that person might end up reporting you as spam which can hurt your ability to do any email marketing at all. They may even report you to the FCC, since it’s against the law.
It’s much better to let contacts come and go in peace. They may come back when you have something of more interest to them one day, and you don’t want to ruin that relationship.
